• Dave Barringer - Lead Pastor

    Pastor Dave joined Kfirst as Lead Pastor in April of 2009.  Dave’s vision is to see Kfirst as a healthy, life-giving community that makes it simple for people to find and follow Jesus.  He loves teaching and preaching, and his passion for ministry is based on healthy relationships.


    Dave was born and raised in the Detroit area as a pastor's kid – both of his parents continue to serve together at their home church.  He graduated from Central Bible College in Springfield, MO with a Bachelors degree in biblical studies, and he is an ordained minister of the Assemblies of God.  


    Prior to moving to Kalamazoo, he served as a Student Ministries pastor for twelve years.  Pastor Dave married his wife, Anne, in 1998. They have two children, Camryn and Ethan.

  • Marty Breithaupt - Care Ministries Pastor

    Pastor Marty joined Kfirst as the Children’s Pastor in June of 1999. In August of 2014 Marty transitioned to Care Pastor, giving leadership and oversight to the care and community at Kfirst.

    Marty was born in Traverse City, MI as the youngest of ten children.  He felt called to pastor at a young age.  Upon graduation from high school in 1984, he began working in the printing trade.  In 1999, he started that journey of pastoring.

    Pastor Marty married his wife, Lisa, in 1986.  They have three children, Justin, Brandon and Carissa.

  • Kevin Buntine - Kids Ministries Pastor

    Pastor Kevin joined Kfirst as the Children’s Pastor in August of 2014. His vision is to facilitate a safe, welcoming environment that makes it simple for kids to find and follow Jesus.  He believes this is best accomplished by partnering with parents to help develop lifelong followers of Jesus. 

    Kevin grew up in the Detroit and Ann Arbor areas.  He was raised in the church and felt called to be a pastor as a child. He attended Northpoint Bible College Grand Rapids Campus, graduating with a Bachelors degree in Ministry Leadership.

  • Matt Ray - Student Ministries Pastor

    Pastor Matt joined Kfirst as the Student Ministries Pastor in June of 2009. Matt loves students, and he has a passion to help them live a real, authentic life that will make a change in their generation.

    Matt grew up Toledo, Ohio. He became a follower of Jesus in high school, and he later attended the Master’s Commission in Temperance, MI from 2004-2006. After graduation, Matt moved to Caro, MI, to serve as a Student Ministries Pastor.

    Matt married his wife Kelly in 2007.  They are the proud parents of daughter, Vienne, and sons, Rocco and Fox.

  • Abbey Johnson - Worship Pastor

    Pastor Abbey has served as Worship Pastor at Kfirst since February of 2011.  Abbey’s aim is to lead people in worship that is Jesus-centered.

    Abbey grew up in Grant, Michigan as the daughter of an Assemblies of God pastor.  At the age of fifteen, she began leading worship for her church, and continued to do so for ten years.  During this time, she developed as a worship leader, songwriter and began writing and recording music.  


    Abbey and Kurt have two children, Audrey and Elliot.

  • Kurt Johnson - Creative Arts & Communications Director

    Kurt joined Kfirst, with his wife Abbey, in February of 2011.  They lead Worship & Creative Arts and they love serving with a creative and talented team.

  • Kyle Quisenberry - Young Adult Director

    Kyle joined Kfirst as the director of young adult ministries in October of 2014. Kyle is passionate about young adults having community together and living passionately for Jesus. 
    He grew up in Indianapolis, IN and is the 2nd oldest of 8 siblings. He grew up in the Church and felt called to vocational ministry as a senior in high school. He also interned under Pastor Matt and has been involved at Kfirst since 2010. Kyle currently attends Northpoint Bible College in pursuit of his Bachelors in Ministry Leadership.

  • Sara Duhn - Nursery Director

    Sara has served as the Nursery & Pre-K Director at KFirst since January 2006. Sara's passion is to make church a fun, safe and loving environment for our 0-5 year olds by teaming up with parents and volunteers to do the work of the ministry together.
    Sara graduated from Evangel University with a double major in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. She taught 6 years in various grades before beginning a new adventure with the birth of her first child. 
    Sara and her husband, Chris, married in 1998 and have three children- Isaac, Emma and Hannah.

  • Bob VanHover - Operations Director

    Bob has served as the Operations Manager at Kfirst since October 2004. In this role, Bob helps facilitate ministry at Kfirst by assisting the pastors, coordinating ministry events, and maintaining the church buildings, grounds, and equipment. Bob and his team work diligently to make certain that Kfirst is a safe, friendly place for people to come and worship Jesus. 

    Bob graduated from Bartlesville Wesleyan College in 1981 with a degree in Elementary Education with post-graduate studies in Educational Psychology . Bob has been married to his wife, Genise, since 1980, and they have two adult children, Ian and Kara. Bob’s adventures in ministry began in the late 80s when he was employed at a home for boys in Lowell, MI. The experience of managing a ministry, sharing the gospel, and leading others to a relationship with Jesus got deep into his blood. Several years later, he felt led to leave a job teaching elementary school to help run and administer a children’s camp in Northern Michigan. After nine years of full time ministry at the camp, the Lord directed him to Kalamazoo and Kfirst.
